The ceremony recognizes some of the best country music released during the eligibility period (June 1, 2014, until May 31, 2015).<ref>"IT’S BALLOTING SEASON AT CMA!". CMA World. </ref> It was the tenth ceremony to be held at the Arena, the sixteenth to be held in November and the eighth night to be co-hosted by country stars Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood. The nominations for the 49th CMA Awards were announced on September 9, 2015, on Good Morning America by Steven Tyler and Kelsea Ballerini.<ref>"2015 CMA Awards Nominees Revealed in Full: See the Complete List". Billboard. 9 September 2015. </ref> The nominees were led by Miranda Lambert with four categories and her sixth win as a Female Vocalist. while Chris Stapleton was the big winner of the night with three awards.
