Moi makes a brief cameo appearance in the music video for Nickelback's 2005 song "Photograph", where he is one of the subjects depicted in the titular photograph. Lead singer Chad Kroeger mentions him by name in the song, expressing confusion over "what the hell's on Joey's head" in the picture.

In 2010, Moi signed a publishing agreement with Big Loud Shirt Music, co-owned by songwriter Craig Wiseman. Moi's first production credit in country music was Owen's "Barefoot Blue Jean Night".<ref>"Joey Moi". Big Loud Shirt. Retrieved 6 December 2013. </ref>
